In 2011 T Mobile put out a commercial that was essentially a season’s greeting card. The commercial consisted of a flash mob at Chicago area Woodfield Mall featuring a women’s choral group performing the Christmas classic, There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays. It was wonderfully produced and executed, pulling at the heart strings of family, community and good will. Even after many viewings it still makes my eyes well up.
There are moments that call for us to act selflessly. Not because we’re recovering or Christians or members of a particular political group but because we chose to give simply for the joy of creating a better world. The anonymous gift of allowing someone to enter our lane in traffic or when we chose to smile to the harried clerk in a store. In these moments we pass on something that will never be repaid and often will go unacknowledged. For that one moment we have given without agenda or expectation but simply to have made someone else’s day a little brighter.
May your holiday season be filled with moments of giving. May your choices be those of grace and caring. And may you know the peace that comes from leaving the world a little better than you found it.
