Recovery isn’t about “breaking a habit”. It is about a change of consciousness profound enough to rise above not only the primary addiction to establish a healthy balanced in one’s life.
This Friday is Independence Day. Take some time this week and write out a description of one nagging problem behavior you’d like to change in your life. Be specific about what the problem is, when it happens, what prompts it and how it affects you as a person. Then write out how you’d like that to change and what that change would mean to you and your relationships to others. Put that piece of paper in you wallet or purse where you have to look at it on a daily basis. You don’t have to read it; just knowing it’s there is good enough. Now just watch how quickly change will start to occur.
